BCG Vaccine
Bacillus Calmette-Guérin

Prevents: Tuberculosis (TB)

Given: At birth

Route: Intradermal injection in left arm

Side Effects: Small scar at injection site (normal)

Pentavalent Vaccine
5-in-1 Combination

Prevents: DPT, Hepatitis B, Hib

Given: 6, 10, 14 weeks

Route: Intramuscular injection

Components: Diphtheria, Pertussis, Tetanus, Hepatitis B, Haemophilus influenzae type b

MR Vaccine
Measles-Rubella

Prevents: Measles and Rubella

Given: 9 months, 16-24 months

Route: Subcutaneous injection

Note: Part of Mission Indradhanush

COVID-19 Vaccines
Coronavirus Vaccines

Available: Covishield, Covaxin, Corbevax

Age: 18 years and above

Doses: 2 doses + Precaution dose

Availability: Free at govt. centers

Rotavirus Vaccine
Rotavirus Protection

Prevents: Severe diarrhea in infants

Given: 6, 10, 14 weeks

Route: Oral drops

Benefit: Prevents dehydration deaths

PCV Vaccine
Pneumococcal Conjugate

Prevents: Pneumonia, Meningitis

Given: 6, 10, 14 weeks

Route: Intramuscular injection

Importance: Reduces child mortality

Vaccination Guidelines & Information

Before Vaccination
  • Ensure child is healthy and fever-free
  • Carry vaccination card/record book
  • Inform doctor about any allergies
  • Feed child before vaccination
  • Check vaccine expiry date
  • Confirm the scheduled vaccine
After Vaccination
  • Wait 30 minutes at the center for observation
  • Apply ice if there's swelling
  • Give paracetamol for fever (if prescribed)
  • Keep the child hydrated
  • Note the next vaccination date
  • Report severe reactions immediately
Common Side Effects

These are normal and usually mild:

  • Mild fever (99-100°F)
  • Redness or swelling at injection site
  • Irritability or fussiness
  • Drowsiness
  • Loss of appetite
Seek immediate medical help if: High fever (>102°F), difficulty breathing, severe swelling, or seizures occur.
